(ST. PAUL, Minn.) April 21, 2011 ñ American Public Media (APM) today announced that The Splendid Table host, Lynne Rossetto Kasper is joining the ranks of featured contributors in the food section of the award-winning and top-ranked Internet news and blog outlet, The Huffington Post.
"The Huffington Post has been one of my go-to sites since its early days and it's exciting to now be a part of it, swapping ideas and takes on how we eat," said Kasper. "Each week on the show we dig into all the new ways food is playing in our lives and now I can do the same thing with The Huffington Post."
Kasper's weekly posts fall under the title "The Splendid Table" a take-off on the award-winning radio program produced and co-founded with Sally Swift. The posts will be a question and answer exchange between Kasper and readers looking for advice and guidance on their culinary questions.

American Public Media Group Selects Jon McTaggart as New CEO
Unanimous Endorsement Follows Wide-Ranging Search
Saint Paul, MN - (Apr. 20) - American Public Media Group, parent company of Minnesota Public Radio and American Public Media, announced today that its board of trustees has unanimously chosen Jon McTaggart as the organization's next chief executive officer. McTaggart, who currently serves as APMG's senior vice president and chief operating officer, will succeed Bill Kling, the company's founder and current CEO, on July 1.
"After thorough succession planning and a comprehensive search process, the board is pleased to have found the best individual to assume leadership of this world-class media organization," said Randy Hogan, chairman of the APMG board of trustees and CEO of Minnesota-based Pentair, Inc. "Jon has a track record of strong leadership both inside and outside of public media. This combined with his deep industry knowledge and institutional tenure makes Jon uniquely qualified to lead APMG successfully into the future."
The selection of McTaggart caps a search process facilitated by Spencer Stuart, a global executive search firm which specializes in placing executives at the nation's largest and most prestigious non-profit organizations. A large initial prospect pool was narrowed by stages to a group who interviewed with the board's succession committee, and then to a final round who met with board leadership.
"Jon is the best choice from a deep pool of interested and highly qualified candidates," said Ian Friendly, chair of the board's succession committee and COO, U.S. Retail, for General Mills. "He's been a successful executive here and elsewhere. Even more important, he's a great fit with each of the four 'critical leadership competencies' we evaluated as part of our selection process: strategic agility, business acumen, vision, and mission-driven orientation. We're delighted that he's accepted the position."

McTaggart, 50, holds a bachelor's in communications and journalism from Bemidji State University in Minnesota, and a Masters in Public Administration from Kutztown University in Pennsylvania. He joined Minnesota Public Radio in 1983, and has held various management positions within the organization ever since - with the exception of two three-year stints as an executive in other industries. He serves on several organizational boards, including Second Harvest Heartland, Bemidji State University Foundation and National Public Radio. A resident of Maplewood, McTaggart grew up on a farm in Campbell, Minnesota. He and Debra, his wife of 31 years, have two daughters and one granddaughter.
Bill Kling, who will exit the CEO post on June 30, expressed confidence in the board's choice. "Jon is a remarkable leader who has been responsible for a great portion of our success over the years," said Kling. "I'm very happy with the board's decision, and I'm confident Jon will ensure that APMG continues to lead the way in public media's ongoing evolution."
Hogan thanked the APMG management team for not allowing the search process to disrupt the organization's operations or strategic activities. "Bill Kling and his team have done a remarkable job during this period of staying focused and moving forward," said Hogan. (St. Paul, MN) - March 7, 2011 - Alison Young has been named the new host of American Public Media's popular weekly classical music radio program SymphonyCast. Young takes over from former host, Brian Newhouse, who recently was named Managing Director of classical programming for all of American Public Media.
"I'm handing the microphone to the wonderful Alison Young, and you're going to be in superb hands," says Newhouse. "Alison knows music from the inside-out from her years playing in orchestras. But what I especially love about her is the sense of passion for, and joy in, the music she's describing."
A graduate of the University of Southern California with a Masters from the Cleveland Institute of Music, Young has a long connection with music. Before her career in radio Young was a successful concert flutist. She was praised by critics and the Atlanta Journal Constitution even stated that she was a "recitalist of great poise and technical security, dazzling precision and virtuosic flair." Young has given numerous recitals in the United States, Europe, Asia, and South America.
Changing stages, Young transitioned from playing orchestras on stage to sharing those orchestras with radio listeners as she hosted, and continues to host, Classical Minnesota Public Radio's Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra broadcasts and American Public Media's annual St. Olaf Christmas Festival. Young's energy and exuberance can be felt on air where she considers herself more of a performer than a broadcaster. "There is definitely a musical feeling to it, a performance feeling to it," Young says. Listeners across the nation will not only hear the various selections of music from SymphonyCast, but also will experience the bravado and passion that Young exudes.
SymphonyCast is a two-hour weekly radio program produced and distributed by American Public Media and featuring a full-length concert by a national or international symphony orchestra. American Public Media Calls on Congress to Keep Public Media Strong
St. Paul, Minn. (February 16, 201l)--American Public Media (APM) is calling on Congress to reject a House Appropriations Committee proposal to eliminate all federal funding for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB). The proposed elimination is part of $100 billion in cuts to the current federal budget.
"Pubic media has an enormous positive impact on the lives of 170 million Americans each week," says Bill Kling, President of APM. "There's no doubt that the current federal balance sheet needs to be revamped. But the complete elimination of CPB, rather than a budget reduction on par with the rest of the federal budget, would unravel a system created by local communities around the country via individual contributions over the last forty years."
Federal funding is a modest, yet critical, part of the public-private partnership that is public media, amounting to $1.35 annually for each American. In turn, every dollar of the federal share is leveraged into six additional dollars at the local station level from other sources. "Public broadcasting is one of the most successful public-private partnerships in the United States today," says Kling.
As a co-manager of the 170 Million Americans for Public Broadcasting campaign, American Public Media is actively working to help public media supporters stay up to date on this issue and let their voices be heard by those making the decisions in Washington.

(January 18, 2011) - Los Angeles, CA - American Public Media's Marketplace has named Heidi Moore its New York bureau chief as the program expands its coverage of the financial industry in the U.S. and globally.
Well known on Wall Street, Moore has reported for the New York Times' DealBook, The Wall Street Journal, Slate.com's The Big Money, and New York Magazine. Moore is familiar to Marketplace listeners as a regular guest of host Kai Ryssdal's Friday segment, The Weekly Wrap.
Moore will report on-line on Marketplace.org and on-air on Marketplace's three programs, Marketplace, Marketplace Morning Report and Marketplace Money.

Former Marketplace Reporter Officially Steps Into Hosting Role Today
(Los Angeles, CA) - January 13, 2011 - Jeremy Hobson has been named a host of American Public Media's signature morning business newscast, Marketplace Morning Report. The Morning Report airs across the nation on over 400 public radio stations, offering listeners a fresh look at business news from a global perspective. Hobson will now officially join Steve Chiotakis as a Marketplace Morning Report host. He had been serving as an interim host since October 2010, when former host Bill Radke returned to his hometown of Seattle.

The upcoming Saturday broadcasts from the Fitz are January 8, 15, 22, 29, and February 5 — five shows packed with great music, wonderful guests, and wry humor. All the fun you expect — and maybe some you don't.
January 8: The incomparable Nellie McKay. And a group of young local fiddle players — Catie Jo Pidel and sisters Deena and Sedra Bistodeau — join Guy's All-Star Shoe Band fiddler Richard Kriehn in a stupendous rendition of the old favorite (and fitting) tune "The Eighth of January."
January 15: Nickel Creek alum Sara Watkins; clawhammer banjo player Abigail Washburn; singer-songwriter Tom Brosseau
The audience at the January 15 show will get to see a historic first — a guest host singing "O hear that old piano from down the avenue." Singer and fiddler Sara Watkins, who did a 25-city tour with Garrison, Fred Newman and the Shoe Band last summer, will take over the host duties and Garrison will be a featured guest, appearing as Guy Noir, Lefty, and of course doing the News from Lake Wobegon.
Says Garrison: "I've never gotten to see the show myself; I've always been standing in the wings and thinking about what I'm supposed to do next. For once in my life, I want to stand in the back of the hall and watch for a few minutes. And Sara is a smart and funny and hugely gifted young woman. Los Angeles - January 4, 2011 - SoCal Connected, KCET's hard-hitting weekly news program, and Marketplace, American Public Media's acclaimed public radio business show, are teaming up to take a tough look at the housing market crisis through one Los Angeles home. The special report ñ "Lot 354: A Tale of Americaís Housing Meltdown" ñ will premiere on KCET's SoCal Connected and on public radio stations across the nation on Marketplace on Thursday, January 13, 2011.
Reported by Marketplace's Kai Ryssdal, "Lot 354" will trace the property from savvy investment boom to foreclosure bust and back again. Participants in the piece will include the couple who bought the home low in 2002, improved it, and sold it 4 years later at almost triple the price; the couple who bought high and lost the home to foreclosure; and the couple who bought it this year at a fraction of the price it sold for in 2006. The story also will include Lot 354's real estate broker, an auctioneer, and a housing banker who will discuss why the home's life on the Los Angeles real estate market reflects the true story of the lending practices that contributed to the crisis in America's housing market. SoCal Connected's Val Zavala and Marketplace host Kai Ryssdal will anchor the program, and will look at how economic forces led to the housing crisis and what the future may hold for both buyers and sellers.

(NEW YORK) Spend Christmas Day evening with Garrison Keillor and his guests when A Prairie Home Companion comes to the intimate, 449-seat Merkin Concert Hall at Kaufman Center on December 25.
Keillor welcomes poet Sharon Olds (One Secret Thing; Strike Sparks: Selected Poems, 1980-2002); author Ian Frazier (Great Plains, Travels in Siberia), and playwright and author Paul Rudnick (Jeffrey; The New Century; I Shudder: And Other Reactions to Life, Death, and New Jersey).
Also on hand, pianist Rob Fisher, who spent four seasons leading the Coffee Club Orchestra on Keillor's show. Fisher is creator and artistic director of the Lyrics and Lyricist series at the 92nd Street Y, and music director for Broadway shows including Chicago and Anything Goes (opening April 2011).

(ST. PAUL, Minn.) A lot of Minnesotans will tell you: When it's February in the North Star State, head north (and a little west)! That's just what Garrison Keillor and the cast of A Prairie Home Companion plan to do.
On Saturday, February 12, 2011, the show leaves its St. Paul home base and sets up at the John S. Glas Fieldhouse at Bemidji State University in Bemidji, Minnesota. Tickets for this show go on sale December 14, 2010, at noon CT.
And on Saturday, February 19, APHC moves on to Morris, Minnesota, broadcasting live from the Physical Education Center Gym at the University of Minnesota-Morris. Tickets for this show go on sale Friday, December 10, at 10:00 a.m. CT.
Actress Sue Scott, Tim Russell (the man of many voices), and sound-effects wizard Tom Keith will be on hand, along with the Guy's All-Star Shoe Band, led by pianist Richard Dworsky. As always, there will be special guests; we'll hear from Private Eye Guy Noir and the Cowboys, Dusty and Lefty; and everyone will catch up on the news from Lake Wobegon during Keillor's signature monologue.
A Prairie Home Companion is heard on close to 600 public radio stations across the U.S., with a weekly audience that tops 4.3 million listeners. The program can also be heard on the Armed Forces Network Europe, the Far East Network, and in dozens of European cities via the Astra satellite network.

Los Angeles, CA - (November 29, 2010) - Public radio's Marketplace is helping listeners improve their own environmental routines as the United Nations Climate Change Conference gathers in Cancun this week. The program's Sustainability Desk has created "The Green Tip & Trade" - a wealth of simple tips from national experts, radio listeners and you on how to reduce energy and water use and our overall personal environmental impacts on the world we live in.
The tips are focused on energy use in the home, in schools, in the workplace, in food production, and in recreational and travel activities. Users can search each category, add their own conservation tips, and participate in discussions on what measures are most effective and why.

(ST. PAUL, Minn.) There's no place like home base, and for A Prairie Home Companion, that's the historic Fitzgerald Theater in downtown St. Paul.
After taking the show on the road for a couple of months, Garrison Keillor and the cast and crew return home for five Saturday broadcasts from the Fitz: January 8, 15, 22, 29, and February 5, 2011. The shows begin at 4:45 p.m. CT.

A new memoir from the former vice president chronicles
a life spent fighting “The Good Fight”
(ST. PAUL, MINN.) — On Monday, November 22, 2010, Garrison Keillor welcomes Walter F. Mondale, former vice president and Minnesota state senator, to the stage of the historic Fitzgerald Theater for an evening of conversation and in-depth discussion on the occasion of Mr. Mondale's new memoir, The Good Fight: A Life In Liberal Politics (written with David Hage). In The Good Fight, Mondale traces his evolution from a young Minnesota attorney general, whose mentor was Senator Hubert H. Humphrey, into a U.S. senator himself. He was instrumental in pushing President Johnson's Great Society legislation through Congress and battled for housing equality, against poverty and discrimination, and for more oversight of the FBI and CIA. Mondale's years as a senator spanned the national turmoil of the Nixon administration; its ultimate self-destruction in the Watergate scandal would change the course of his own political fortunes.
Chosen as running mate for Jimmy Carter's successful 1976 campaign, Mondale served as vice president for four years. With an office in the White House, he invented the modern vice presidency; his inside look at the Carter administration will fascinate students of American history as he recalls how he and Carter confronted the energy crisis, the Iran hostage crisis, the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan, and other crucial events, many of which reverberate to the present day. His intriguing memoir ends with his frank assessment of the Bush-Cheney administration and the first two years of the presidency of Barack Obama.
