David Brancaccio to Take on New Role at Marketplace

Longtime Marketplace Morning Report Host to Serve as Special Correspondent, Reporting on the Future of Our Economy

LOS ANGELES, March 31, 2026 – David Brancaccio will wrap his tenure as host of the public media business and economic news program Marketplace Morning Report in early April as he transitions to a new special correspondent role for Marketplace by American Public Media, the most widely heard program on business and the economy — in radio or television, commercial or public broadcasting — in the country. In the new role, Brancaccio will remain at Marketplace, covering future effects, economic decisions made now that shape our long term futures.

“We are so appreciative of the work David has done over the past 13 years to become such an important part of our listeners' mornings,” said Neal Scarbrough, Vice President and General Manager of Marketplace. “But we are even more excited about how David will help our audiences understand the ways a brighter economic future for all is possible as long as we do not repeat the economic mistakes of the past.”

“As an organization, we’re constantly talking about positioning ourselves for the future, and we know we’re not alone,” said Jean Taylor, President and CEO of American Public Media Group. “This new assignment for David feels hyper relevant in a time of tremendous change. David’s voice and insights always bring something to a story that you can’t get anywhere else. We can’t wait to hear what he has to share.”

Brancaccio has hosted American Public Media's signature morning business newscast—now carried by 791 public radio stations across the nation and downloaded 1.5 million times a month—since 2013 and previously hosted Marketplace’s evening show. His tenure at Marketplace dates to 1989, when he began working for Marketplace freelance; in 1990, he became Marketplace’s London correspondent. Brancaccio also co-anchored then anchored the PBS television news magazine “Now” and authored “Squandering Aimlessly,” a book about the relationship between Americans’ personal values and their money. His broadcast journalism awards include an Emmy, Peabody, Alfred I. duPont-Columbia, and Cronkite.

Brancaccio hosted the weekday morning Marketplace program from New York until he relocated to Altadena, California, in late 2024—only to lose his home in the California wildfires two months later. Brancaccio has shared his personal story with listeners as a lens to better understand the long-term economic impacts of rebuilding following such a disaster, including through a special reporting collaboration with This Old House Radio Hour, “Building Tomorrow.”

“Let’s all agree, a key driver of so many bad money decisions at the personal, corporate and policy levels is short-term thinking. Let’s go long and see what we learn.” Brancaccio said. “I’ll miss my wonderful morning team, but I won’t miss the 2 am morning alarm!”

Brancaccio’s final week in the Marketplace Morning Report host chair will be April 6 through 10. Regular fill-in hosts including Marketplace correspondents Sabri Ben-Achour and Amy Scott will helm the show on an interim basis, and a new, permanent host for Marketplace Morning Report will be announced in the coming weeks.
